From a young age I was fascinated by drawing. My interest in art became more evident in high school and went on studying a BA Fine Arts degree at the University of Pretoria. At present I pursue a full time career in my father’s insurance company and after hours enjoy fulfilling my passion for art. I have been exhibiting my work at Art d’Afrique gallery in Hartbeespoort, Art Avenue at East Rand Mall and at present exhibit at Portchie Gallery in Pretoria. I’ve also completed numerous animal and portrait compositions for clients. 2013 was the highlight in my career when I showcased my work at my first solo exhibition. In February 2015 I was content to open The Red Brush Art School and Gallery and am privileged to share my knowledge of art with people. Since the opening of my art school I’m more encouraged to create art to exhibit at our own art exhibitions. I was privileged to be part of the Benoni Art Route in 2015 and Artists Under The Sun at Zoo Lake in 2017.
My art consist between a wide interest in subject matter, from the portrayal of landscapes, portraiture, still life, and animal studies. I find oil paint as my preferable medium to work, but also enjoy charcoal and pencil drawings. Recently I’ve started exploring watercolours and find the medium challenging and interesting. When painting, I draw inspiration from God’s creation and feel through every natural form closer to Him. I believe God uses me via paint and a brush to make a difference. My work can sometimes be described as contemporary realism; twisting reality to illustrate the way I observe the subject. In a way I draw inspiration from Fauvism, Expressionism and Impressionism, but I consider myself more as a realist. I’m fascinated by the uprising colours when exploring the subject and believe strong use of colour add emotion and feeling into the painting.
Art is a medium of communication, and I find it important to communicate a positive message through my work. I’m inspired through my journeys and strive to make every artwork that I create unique in its own way.
